|Since receiving his BFA in 1986 from Philadelphia College of Art (now, The University of the Arts), Jim Himsworth has worked as a portrait painter, illustrator and fine artist. His extensive free-lance client list included: The Franklin Mint, The Opera Company of Philadelphia, Ariel Books, Omni Magazine and ARA Food Services to name several. He was Head Illustrator for Dimensions (a needlecraft company) for five plus years when, beginning in 2000, he left commercial art to focus exclusively on portrait and Fine Art painting. Jim was awarded First Prize in the American Society of Portrait Artist's 2001 International Portrait Competition for his painting "Red". Since this International debut, he continues to win awards for portraiture and Fine Art painting.
His work has been exhibited at The Michener Art Museum, The Art Student's League (NYC), The Rittenhouse Square Annual Fine Arts Exhibition (Philadelphia, PA), Woodmere Art Museum, West Chester University, Phillip's Mill Gallery, Sabine Rose Gallery, Mixed Media Gallery, Aldie Mansion, The Philadelphia Sketch Club and the Reading Public Museum.
Jim's portrait and figure painting education continued at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The University of the Arts and Studio Incamminati under Nelson Shanks. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. Jim teaches portrait painting and life drawing at Warehouse 521 in Nashville, TN and at his home studio located in Mt. Juliet, TN.
